Learning Support Services
Director: Anne Kamps x6367
Learning Support Services is a Division of NWTC that offers support services for many aspects of learning. LSS supports several alternative delivery methods and technologies, all aspects of curriculum and the Library. LSS does not actually offer any courses, rather supports all divisions in class offerings and the educational process.
Instructional Design/Curriculum
Curriculum addresses several different things at NWTC. It addresses the numerical and course configuration of programs and supporting courses. Curriculum supports approval of courses with the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and client reporting, which directly relates to NWTC’s state funding. Curriculum also addresses the design of the content addressed in each of the courses, following the WIDS Instructional Design Model, for all courses regardless of delivery methods. Support for teaching methods and assessment is also provided by Instructional Design.
For more information about how Instructional Design can help you, please contact: Vicki Csida x7197 or Valerie Bielinski x6887.
Online Learning
Online Learning is another delivery mode for learning at NWTC. Students participate in courses through Blackboard, the online delivery platform used by NWTC. All courses are facilitated by an instructor and student participation is often required in the online environment. Students have one semester to complete the class work.

Library/Learning Resource Center (LRC)
NWTC's Library has a wealth of resources to assist students, faculty and staff. For more information about the Library, visit http://www.nwtc.edu/Library/Default.htm.

Learning Object Development
Learning Objects are chunks of web-based media intended to support the delivery of course content in online or web-enhanced courses. These are developed internally or collaboratively with other technical colleges. For a listing of all learning objects, visit http://www.wisc-online.com.
Do you need a Learning Object developed for one of your courses? Contact Dan Pahlow x6253 for more information.
Correspondence Courses/Technical College of the Air (TCA)
Correspondence, or TCA courses, offer students the flexibility of completing coursework independently and are not required to attend scheduled in person courses. Students are required to maintain contact with the class instructor and complete the assigned work. Students may be allowed two consecutive semesters to complete the work. These courses have traditionally been courses offered through VHS videos, and recently, the delivery has grown to include DVD and more typical print-based materials, maintaining the contact between the student and instructor. LSS coordinates collection and distribution of class materials as well as the scheduling of courses.
For more information about TCA courses, please contact: Sherry Olive x5571.
Interactive Television (ITV) & Video Conference (VC) Coordination
Interactive Television (ITV) and Video Conference (VC) allows students to take classes from selected locations or right in their own community. An ITV or VC class is just like a traditional class in structure except, the instructor and students may be in different locations. All locations see and hear each other at the same time and interact continually throughout the class time.
Coordination and scheduling of ITV facilities is handled by LSS. For more information about ITV, please contact: Maureen Rehmer x5424 or Patricia Nimocks x5491.
Learning Support Services is located in SC206 and SC209 with the exception of the Library.
